The history of Murrieta's past is detailed and vast, as is its thriving and constantly brighter future. The city began like most places in the U.S., as an area of beautiful uncharted land. In 1873, the area's tall sycamores, oak trees and rolling grassy hills and valleys reminded a man named Esequial Murrieta of his home in Spain. He was so moved, that he purchased 52,000 acres of the land, a whopping acquisition by all accounts. Esequial decided that he would move his sheep ranch down to this area from north-central California.
But instead of using the land as he had originally intended, Esequial returned to Spain and married, so he gave the land to his brother Juan. Juan decided that the area was in fact an excellent location for a sheep ranch, so he brought approximately 100,000 sheep to the area. This was the first beginnings of the city of Murrieta as it is known today. In 1882, the town grew rapidly due to the addition of the Southern California Railroad, and by the end of the decade in 1890, Murrieta had grown to be a town of over 800 people, which was somewhat large for that period of time.
The small town continued to grow until 1935, when the Southern California Railroad pulled out of the town and trains no longer passed through the town. This put a sour end to the prosperity that had been steadily increasing over the previous 45 years. This period of stagnation remained until 50 years later in 1985, when a new interstate was opened through the town. Suddenly, almost instant growth resulted, and this explosive growth set the pace for what Murrieta would become over the next two decades.
In a period of just six years, the population and size of Murrieta grew drastically. By 1991, the town had turned into a blooming city with a population of over 24,000 people, which is more than ten times the population a decade before in 1981. Ever since then, the city has continued to flourish. In 2005, it was reported that there were more than 95,000 people living in the city. This recent census report makes the city of Murrieta one of the largest in the county.
The local economy is constantly growing, and businesses of all kinds are experiencing amazing success. In Murrieta, you'll find many vineyards, citrus and avocado groves, as well as, horse ranches, a large assortment of shopping centers, stores and restaurants. Due to this rapid growth and success, there are many job opportunities in the city as well. The evolution and expansion of Murrieta has also made land and real estate in and around the city rather desirable, and there are many excellent homes and other properties that are currently available at prices that are quite reasonable by California standards.
You may be wondering exactly what it is that has turned Murrieta into such an auspicious community in such a short period of time. The quick answer to that question would be that the quality of life in the city is excellent and it is constantly improving. However, a much more detailed answer is appropriate to fully explain the allure of Murrieta. One major factor in Murrieta's success is the fact that the town is a very secure and safe place to live. Though the population spans over 100,000 people, very little crime happens in the city. In fact, Murrieta is by far, one of the safest cities in all of Southern California. This is due in part to the hospitable nature of the city and also because of its small town atmosphere.
The school system is another element that makes Murrieta a great place in which to live and invest. The schools in Murrieta are of the highest quality, and you can rest assured that your child will receive only the best education that Southern California has to offer. Recent studies have determined that the Murrieta district is the highest achieving school district in the county, with grade point averages and test scores that are far above average. There are a large variety of excellent colleges within an hour's drive as well.
The hospital and health care systems in Murrieta are also rather appealing. Some of the best health care professionals in the state work in the city, and people from all over California frequent the many hospitals and clinics on a regular basis. The very scenic view helps the appeal of the city as well, as does the enjoyable warm and breezy climate.
Murrieta is a constantly growing city that is ripe with splendid real estate, land and various other types of property in which to invest. Lifestyles of all kinds can be supported in the city, from suburban living to rural ranches and semi-rural living. If you are yearning to invest in a community with an overall high quality of living, then Murrieta is the city of your dreams.
